GITEX Africa Opens in Marrakech Under AI Theme

The fourth edition of GITEX Africa Morocco opened its doors this morning in Marrakech, bringing together more than 1,450 exhibitors and startups from over 145 countries for what organizers describe as the continent's largest technology and digital economy gathering. The three-day event runs through April 9 under the theme "Catalyzing Africa's Digital Economy in the Age of Artificial Intelligence." Morocco had risen 14 places in the government AI readiness index in 2025, and outlined progress on 5G deployment targeting 45% population coverage by the end of 2026. These numbers frame the event as more than a trade show. Morocco is using GITEX Africa as a platform to position itself as Africa's primary digital hub, a gateway connecting Europe, Africa, and the Atlantic. The hyperscale data center market in Africa is forecast to increase from $6.7 billion in 2025 to more than $28 billion by 2030. That growth is driving conversations at the event about where the continent's cloud infrastructure will actually sit and who will build it. For Nigerian developers and agencies, GITEX Africa is one of the few events where African-built tech gets visibility in front of international investors and enterprise buyers. The continent's fintech sector alone is projected to grow from $30 billion in 2025 to $65 billion by 2030. That is a significant market, and events like this create access points. If you are building products or services for African markets, the conversations happening in Marrakech this week are shaping the infrastructure, investment, and policy environment you will operate in for the next five years.
